Brief Presentation of Iletisim Publishing
Iletisim, one of Turkey’s leading publishers, has a unique position in the publishing scene due to its wide range of interests and quality of choice. In the space of three decades, Iletisim books have become a vast library comprising the most significant titles from international and Turkish literature, human sciences, history, politics, and social studies. The contributions from Turkish and foreign scholars with studies that probe the complex and controversial topics of Turkey’s social and political history as well as those of the neighbouring regions distinguish İletişim as a publishing house that has guarded the frontiers of scholarly research in Turkey and elsewhere. Beside the publication of fiction, and non-fiction books, Iletisim is also involved in encyclopedia publishing. Its own encyclopedias are compiled with the intention to provide a first-hand source for researches of Turkey’s social and political life. İletişim Yayınları focusing mostly on encyclopaedias and periodicals in its early years: Encyclopaedia of Turkey: The Republic Era; From Tanzimat to the Republic , Encyclopedia of the 20th Century World Leaders, Encyclopaedia of Socialism and Social Struggles. Also published two encyclopaedias in collaboration with foreign companies: Computers and Cultural Atlas Series. Political Thought in Modern Turkey is an another encyclopedia with in 9 volumes. İletişim started publishing the history magazine History and Society in 1984 (now as an academical review with 6 months period).
Another main focus of Iletisim’s catalogue is contemporary Turkish literature, both publishing works of masters and supporting young authors. The series which is highly regarded by the audience is a source of pride for the editorial board. The 2.700 odd titles published so far include the complete works of Dostoyevski, Tolstoy, Joyce, Faulkner, Nabokov, Borges, Virginia Woolf in international literature and Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu, Oğuz Atay, Sevgi Soysal, İhsan Oktay Anar, Hasan Ali Toptaş, Latife Tekin in Turkish literature; the complete works of Cemil Meriç and Şerif Mardin in social sciences. Popular Science Books series and children books series are also important reflections of Iletisim.
Since it has been founded in 1983, Iletisim has been collaborating with international publishers in a number of ways. Besides publishing the most significant works of foreign publishers in Turkish language, Iletisim also grants royalties for titles in its catalogue. Numerous Iletisim books have been translated and published in such countries as Germany, Holland, Sweden, Denmark, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Hungary, Albania, Egypt, Tunisia, Korea, and Israel.
